My favorite memories of the Bronze were the rare occasions when Joss would drop by to post about something. I always imagined that he must have been drinking and decided to go online because he was usually rambling and rather incoherent, but Whedon, even when incoherent, is often hilarious.
I started with S3, too. The Wish was my first episode. That's a tough one to start with! I was playing catch up forever. You probably remember that at that time the episodes hadn't been released in full. I was just watching whatever random episodes I could find, in any order I found them. For instance, the second episode I watched was Phases. I was utterly lost until I sheepishly admitted to a friend that I really enjoyed BTVS and found out he was a fan. He filled me in on all the broad strokes (and then the subtler nuances as needed) and was the one who told me about the Bronze. Needless to say, I was hooked!
I enjoyed when Joss and the other VIPs showed up, too. [ Hey, have I mentioned that Drew Goddard posted an answer to me?
I might just put that on my gravestone. Only as a postscript, of course; I'm not a braggart.
Okay, I'm sorry -- I'll stop being silly now. Maybe...
] Joss was funny in that very particular way of his. I love how he always forgot his password for the site! I never pictured him drinking as he posted but to quote Oz: Actually, it explains a lot. Of course now I will never be able to read a Joss Whedon quote without picturing him in his jammies with a nice glass of something next to him. (Somehow the jammies just got folded in to my mental image. Let's let it be our little secret, m'kay?)***
The PBP was the Posting Board Party. It was a yearly gathering of the members of the Bronze. They'd invite the VIPs and they would actually attend. I know a few people who went and they had a blast! I never went, though -- I just enjoyed posting....
In Homecoming, on Buffy's board of her opponents' strengths and weaknesses one of the girls has "PB crazed" (or something like that). That's the shoutout to the Bronze, as I heard it. (It might have even been in a commentary.) All I can recall is that I heard about it much later than the episodes aired. (As I understand it, Big Bad also came from the Bronze, but I really cannot remember how I heard that or how reliable the source way.)
*** Actually, this old Far Side cartoon is what sprang to mind:
