i've had my 'run-ins' in the past.

always nice to leave a job with your head held high, being nothing but complementary and positive of your former employer thanking them for the opportunity despite the typical political BS everyone puts up with at every company - that's life - boo hoo.

however - either leaving on a good note (which is always recommended) or leaving with 2 middle fingers in the air - i've always viewed HR as the the shallowest phonies on the face of earth - just worms - playing by the book their whole life - probably single with 10 cats - never been married, no kids, no prospects - and enjoy having their thumb above others because of their position in the company - a position they pursued because maybe they felt a little vindictive in life......
