17 years before Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, Angel Heart takes us to Louisiana for some twisted voodoo and ritualized bloodshed. Props for casting Charlotte Rampling. De Niro is chilling and he steals every scene he's in. Mickey Rourke lacks some charisma here, for me, but the atmosphere is solid, slowly heightening dread until the highly satisfying twist ending. Crazy sex scene with Lisa Bonet. Enjoyable and creative, though it took its time getting going. 7/10 Seriously? Some of those stinkers from the 90s were watchable because of him. |
