Le Dépeceur de Mons ( The Cutter of Mons ) is the nickname given by the Belgian newspapers for an unidentified killer who assassinated many women between 1996 and 2001 near the city of Mons, in Belgium. Belgian authorities believe the killer committed five murders, maybe more. The identity of the killer remains unknown, even if the Belgian police created a team to investigate the case ( la cellule Corpus ).
The bodies were discovered between march 1997 and april 1998. The bodies were found in areas with evocative names: Chemin de l'inquiétude ( road of concern ), Rue du dépôt ( street of deposit ), Rivière La Haine ( Hatred River ), Rue de la Trouille ( Street of fear ). The bodies were so badly mutilated that the authorities had a hard time identifying the victims.
The first bodies were found on march 22,1997. A policeman found 9 bags in the village of Cuesmes, near Émile Vandervelde avenue. In these bags authorities found human remains ( no head ). They think these remains belong to three different victims.
On march 24 1997 police found another bag, containing what they think is one body. Same thing, only human remains, no head.
On April 12 1997 two more bags are discovered near Havré ( Province of Hainaut ).
On April 18 1997 authorities found three other bags.
On July 18 1997 a human pelvis is found near Château-L'Abbaye.
In November of 1997 a skull is found in an orchard near Hyon ( Province of Hainaut ).
In April of 1998 teeth and cervical vertebrae are found near Hyon, believing to be from the same body they found in november of 1997.
THE VICTIMS
- Carmelina Russo ( 46 years old ), who was reported missing in january 1996 ( the pelvis found on July 18 belongs to her ).
- Martine Bohn ( 43 years old ), who disappeared in july 1996. Her torso was found in La Rivière Haine in 1997 ( authorities also believe the remains the found in the village of Cuesmes belongs to her ).
- Jacqueline Leclercq ( 33 Years old ), who disappeared in december 1996.
- Nathalie Godart ( 22 years old ), who disappeared in march 1997.
- Begonia Valencia, who disappeared in the summer of 1997. Authorities believe the skull they found near Hyon belongs to her.
The Belgian police believe the killer committed other murders, sadly in most of the case the identification of the bodies was impossible.
The Suspects
- Smail Tulja, born in 1940. Tulja commited identical murders in New York in 1990 and Albany in 2007, but sadly we have no evidences that Tulja was indeed in Belgium when the killings happened.
- Jacques Antoine. Back in 2009 his son wrote many letters to the authorities, claiming his father, a very respected doctor living in Mons, was indeed le Dépeceur. No evidences were found at the doctor's Home, but he remains a suspect.
The case remains open and the identity of the killer is still unknown. La Cellule Corpus is still searching for the killer or the identity of some of the bodies.about it) "
