76ers have just 3 NBA titles. That's not a bad record and in fact above average but why does it appear as if 76ers are more special than most other clubs? There is always an air that 76ers are as legendary as Lakers and Celtics but those two have so many NBA titles. I am not an American so may not be aware of some cultural significance related to 76ers. They are usually considered the third best franchise in NBA history. That is more because of relevance and talent instead of titles. The Sixers of the 60s and 80s are widely considered to be some of the best teams ever, with the 67 Sixers and the 83 Sixers usually being in most experts top 5 lists when mentioning greatest teams ever. There were years when it was a forgone conclusion that it would be Sixers/Boston in the ECF. Also, if you are doing an 'all' team, they would be the third best team with players like Shayes, Irving, Moses, Wilt, Jones, Iverson, Cheeks, etc. No one can compare to the Celtics and Lakers as far as historical success, but the Sixers were up there for a long time.
