I can see this happening:

2020, if things keep going as is, Trump would be in for a loss. He's not stupid, he will see that, and he will (like the coward he is) bail out. But as he bails out of the 2020 election he will go out with a great escape plan that still makes him a winner. He will not run...but Ivanka will. First woman President, Trump's own child...Trump will bask in that glory. He will still be considered a winner. He's not running in 2020...he can still win without running.
