Really? In interviews circa 2007 he expressed surprise that he was basically being written out and said he felt hurt about it. I guess it's possible he's developed some health issues in the interim, since Richard Belzer is not necessary a super-young guy. I wouldn't swear to it, but I suspect it's COPD. In the episode last year, he was sitting down playing with Benson's son. He got up, and was breathing pretty hard, like he was having a hard time catching his breath. I've had family members with COPD and that's exactly what it looks like. That's interesting, if depressing. Thanks. I wish him all the best! Weirdly enough we had a little mini-Munch Marathon just a couple weekends ago. We watched his character's appearances in X-Files, Arrested Development, and a couple classic episodes of SVU. Good stuff. |
