I think you're confusing "standalone adventure" and "not part of the MCU" like the title of your thread suggests. Yes, the Guardians of the Galaxy do stand on their own compared to the other Marvel heroes in the MCU with hardly any mentions of previous films or cameos of other heroes because have their own cosmic adventures and protect the galaxy, but it's still set in the same universe. They're going to help the Avengers fight Thanos in the next Avengers movie. Wonder Woman stands on its own, but it's still part of the same universe.
