Ok so I just watched episode 1 of the anime. I can already see a lot of the problems with the movie. Light seems to be a totally different character in the movie,we don't really get to see Ryuk in full detail in the movie, light was not a chosen one like it was in the movie and Ryuk dropped the book by accident. I don't really see how Netflix messed this up. They had a really great source material to work with and just like Sony did with the Dark Tower they definitely fucked it up. Wingard said that they wanted to go in a different direction since there are already several anime and live action adaptations in Japan. But that could easily be PR talk of cuorse. |
