Tobe Hooper, the horror director best known for helming “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” and “Poltergeist,” died Saturday in Sherman Oaks, Calif., according to the Los Angeles County Coroner. He was 74. The circumstances of his death were not known. I'm feeling sad, contemplative, upon just hearing this breaking news; little over a month ago, we lost Tobe Hooper's friend and fellow horror filmmaker George Romero. I'll be looking to read tributes over the next few days to Hooper, who like Romero, was one of America's greatest, most influential filmmakers. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
