I haven't seen this idea being floated around anywhere outside of this thread, to be perfectly honest. Of course Joss Whedon is going to have people who are upset with him for cheating on his wife, but that's not enough to get a director fired from a movie.
I've seen it a bunch of times in comicbook and movie websites. Do a google search and you'll immediately get a bunch of hits.
