It's not that i do it just to do it as i am against people who do that crap. so your definitely mistaken if you think i am 'going against the tide' just to go against people etc.
in my case it's simply the fact that there is only 197 movies out of the 2,125+ total movies i have seen (which is less than 10% of everything i have seen) that stand out from the pack (even though there is roughly another 300-400 movies or so beyond those 197 movies that i still like). so with with Scorsese having seven of those movies that's actually doing pretty good as not many can claim to have pulled that off be it actor/actress or director. so actually this is more praise than anything else for Scorsese at the end of the day even though i definitely feel some of his movies are overrated but then again we all have movies we feel get too much credit etc.
also, like i have mentioned before... i don't "hate" most good movies and directors it's simply they don't stand out and movies that don't stand out from the pack are pretty much 'just another movie' sorta thing. also, i have said before... most movies i see are decent enough not to have wasted my time it's just that they are not worth re-watching and that's what ultimately makes or breaks movies in the long term. so all i am really doing is filtering out the BS from the truly good movies for me personally. i actually think that's a good thing. i know i am not the only person around here who does not hand out high ratings all of the time either as i feel those who constantly hand out high ratings you can't really tell what they really think stands out from the pack vs just something decent-ish etc as i doubt they really like some of the movies as much as their ratings lead on who can easily find 8's/9's/10's especially after they have seen plenty of movies as i would assume if they went through there movies and really figured out which are really great for them and then the further they get away from that standard the lower the rating then i think they would find they are probably scoring movies a bit too high as i used to score movies a bit too high say 5-10+ years ago but then i went through and fine tuned my rating system etc so i can see what really stands out from the pack for me etc.
but with that said... do you personally think most of the movies in the IMDb Top 250, for example, are anything special for you personally? ; i think it's just a fact most movies made are nothing special and only a small portion of them are of any real worth in the long term. with that said... i realize there are movies i personally don't care for that would be recognized by many to be a 'good movie' and all as i guess if your going to come up with a rough standard to judge movies you can probably go by how much a movie $$$ in the theaters or maybe estimate of how many times a movie was watched on TV over the years or maybe a little bit with critics/average people combo etc etc. like how many movies out there are considered classics by a decent portion of the general public? ; that might be a rough standard to go by for what's quality.
so when i bottom line Scorsese... i can't really say he's overrated overall (even though there are some of his movies i feel are overrated) when there is seven movies from him amongst My Favorite Movies (i.e. Top 197 movies) which not many actors/actresses/directors could claim that feat
^always seeing you around and you seem to hate most great movies and directors. You love going against the tide. Just sayin'
