Outside of the following i would say he's overrated... 1.The Color of Money (1986) - 8/10 2.The Aviator (2004) - 7.5-8/10 3.Casino (1995) 4.After Hours (1985) - 7-7.5/10 -.Gangs of New York (2002) 6.The Departed (2006) - 7/10 -.The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) but given he's directed seven movies amongst My Favorite Movies in general i can't really say he's all that overrated. ^^^THIS^^^ Your doing a cup half full/ half empty thing there. Lets say a directors entire career was just those 7 movies.. you'd then think he was brilliant, no? That any one person has that many great movies in his repertoire is enough to put him into a fairly high rank.
Look at Frank Darabont... I don't think anyone would put him into the upper echelon of great filmmakers even though he directed what on IMDB and many other lists ranks as maybe the most popular or best film on many "best" lists, Shawshank Redemption.
But he only made one, whereas in your opinion Scorcese's made seven great movies. That's a cup half full to me.
