I don't think it would matter in regards to diving but it could be fun to see the offended player take the kick.
I remember watching Pele on telly years ago complaining about free-kicks in the way that he might be brought down and there are three defenders between him and the goal at the time of the foul but when the free-kick is taken, the entire team gets to come behind the ball again. His idea was that the number of players behind the ball at the time of the foul should be the number of players behind the ball for the free-kick.
