Like yours, I'm also thinking of a scene in a movie with a missile strike.
Testament is about a nuclear war and how a family and a small town try to survive and cope with the aftermath.

The most memorable scene is just before and then when the missile strikes.
They do a really great job of building up the suspense and then have a real creepy and scary feel to it.
It is just as powerful or even more so then those scenes in nuclear strike movies where they show everything getting destroyed or people getting blasted.
