The dictionary wholly agrees with me. It uses the grounded airplane as an example.
So you're saying that the dictionary says that a plane should be soaring 24/7?

The dictionary uses "airplane stuck on the ground permanently" as an example of being "grounded".
Not flying, not soaring. Just stuck on the ground where it can't be used to full potential.
Or a kid being "grounded". Means they're stuck and can't go out and do anything fun or cool.
