I have, and what makes those movies good are the supporting characters and the action. Not the leads. Unforgiven took a different approach which is why it's the modern classic it is (well, as Modern as you can be for an early 90s flick). Unforgiven is about a former gunfighter who fails to keep his promise to his wife. He tries to be non violent but once his partner is killed he goes nuts. Then he becomes a grocer. The end. Every Hollywood Eastwood movie injects some kind of neurosis or fail message. The only westerns he did with no such message were the Leone ones. And I have never heard anyone say that the characters other than the Man with no Name or Harmonica are the interesting ones. They are all interesting. The only thing with Eastwood's character is that he has no back story.
