Well I've made this point before, but I don't think he should have extended his contract. When you play in a team you should always have each others backs when it comes down to it, even if maybe you don't even like one or two team-mates. Whether you are on the field, off the field having a drink together in a bar or club or one of your team-mates is waving a sponsorship form in your face to save endangered Pandas or something, you should always have each others backs. Now it maybe that you don't give a shit about Pandas, but you still make a small donation if it matters to a team-mate, that's what teams do.
Now would it have really killed his team-mates to have knelt with him, even once, just to help take the heat off him? To stand as one? They clearly didn't have his back here. They weren't a team.
Maybe you could argue he should have given up the kneeling when it was obvious his team-mates weren't going to stand as one (or kneel as one), but even so, I don't blame him for walking. When you know that you would always back your team, I would have been pissed if my team-mates hadn't backed me over something I thought was important, so I would have walked as well.
