I became interested in the show because of the 80s nostalgic aspect. I'm not a computer geek, so I didn't always understand specifically what they were doing in that field. But it's not really necessary to follow the stories. I eventually grew to like Bos the best. And Donna/Gordon, too. I can't say I liked Joe much. The final episode seemed anticlimactic after Gordon died. Okay, Joe left. No big surprise there. He seems too self-centered to have a lasting relationship. But Haley was becoming one of the more interesting characterss. If the show continued, she would probably be one of the main stars.
I feel like he resigned himself to a life of solitude after losing everything in his life driving him forward, he was simply too beaten down. Possibly so. I hadn't thought of it that way. Some of the commentary on the show reminds me that I'm not looking at the broad perspective of the whole series. It's been a few years since I saw the pilot and some details elude me. Reviewing the early episodes, some have pointed out that Joe has been on a long journey to humanity and becoming a better person. And by the end, he and Cameron were growing in different directions.
