Possibly so. I hadn't thought of it that way. Some of the commentary on the show reminds me that I'm not looking at the broad perspective of the whole series. It's been a few years since I saw the pilot and some details elude me. Reviewing the early episodes, some have pointed out that Joe has been on a long journey to humanity and becoming a better person. And by the end, he and Cameron were growing in different directions.
I am happy they didn't force them together at all ewwww, I felt like their relationship was much more honest in that regard. Yeah, I mean while I liked Cam/Joe together (I blame their talk over the lighters in the hall in S3 and their talk in the car in S1 when she asked if he would get bored of her), I got to a point where I just couldn't see them sticking it out. When she was still more interested in the computers and such, while Joe was sitting there planning a house--I kept thinking, "Writing on the wall, Joe. You two are going in separate directions again", and I did not think they would come back together. I almost think they are supposed to be like Gordon/Donna, where they were together a while and they made each other better, but then they outgrew each other and became incompatible people- yet they still had all this history and they still cared about each other, plus they had the potential for a solid friendship at some point in the future. The idea of Joe being so isolated though, bothers me. He always was my favorite character from the first season. I kind of wish he at least had a dog. They could have had a picture of his dog(s) sitting on his desk at the school, showing he at least wasn't totally an island.
