which character/performance did you prefer? a while back i would have said the latter, no contest, but a few rewatches of TWBB have certainly changed that. There's no doubt that Daniel Plainview is a tremendous character, but we'd be lying to ourselves if we refused to admit that it is a tad overcooked and overbearing in parts. Bill suffers from none of that. Granted he isn't treated with nearly as much complexity and detail, but there's sheer badassery (with touched of humanity) conveyed with a great deal of subtlety and it never feels try- hard. Plus he's a much cooler character than that douchebag. but that's just me. what say you? I haven't seen There will be blood so ill go for Bill the Butcher by default. i did love bill and it was a very different type of Villain that i expected which made it even better. i thought Bill would be a sort of Commodous from Gladiator or Amon Goeth from schindlers list terryfing and hatable but you feel sorry for them. For my surprise Bill was much more entertaining, you don't root for him but you do like this guy snd admire his sense of honor and value of Loyalty. So while i did enjoy very much bill i gave him extra points for surprising me in the type of Villain he would be. Richard Roper who i liked very much in the night Manager reminded me a lot bill in a good way. Maybe because Daniel has the reputation of being such a serious actor i ecpected a much more dramatic and ser performance. His character took me by surprise completely
