Out of the i would guess between 1000 and 2000 movies i have seen in my life time i have only rated five movies 10\10. I have rated plenty of movies 9.5 and 9 and 8.5 and 8 but only 5 movies have i given the perfect score of 10\10.
The five movies i have rated 10\10 are Greed (1924) The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934) Gone With The Wind (1939) The Godfahter I (1972) The Godfather II (1974)
Now how would you rate the movies i have given 10\10 ?

Can or should we be giving full marks to a movie that waxes lyrical about the era of slavery?

Both Godfathers, also a ten out of ten. Those are the only ones I've seen-all the way through anyway. I've seen only bits of GONE WITH THE WIND.

Every movie in my top 10 are rated 10. I must be a softie I have no idea what question you are answering but its not mine. Only one of those is in my top 10 so I have no idea what my rating is for the others and it seems irresponsible to just rate something on the fly. Godfather - 10

"The What of What Street?" Well yes its not a very known movie i know. The Barretts of Wimpole Street The story is great i think. And the cast and acting i think is brilliant especially from Charles Laughton. But Fredric March, Maureen O`Sullivan and Norma Shearer are also brilliant in it. It kind of felt more like watching a theater than a movie actually.

I'm not really a movie buff. From what movies I seem to remember:
- Gone withe the Wind 8.5 (borderline racist and morally attavistic but GREAT) - THE Godfather (9.5/10) - Godfather 2 (7/10)

Can or should we be giving full marks to a movie that waxes lyrical about the era of slavery? Hopefully stuff like that has nothing at all to do with how you rate films (or music, or anything else). I'd hope that you'd rate a film on how well it works as a film--more or less on its formal properties as a film.

I honestly haven't seen the first two (they are on my list now), but the rest I give high marks although I think the Godfather films are a tad overrated.
