Halloween - 200 times Carrie - 200 times Summer of Fear - 150 times Rosemary's Baby - 100 times Jaws 2 - 100 times The Initiation of Sara - 75 times Creepshow - 75 times The Omen - 75 times Jaws - 75 times Terror Train - 75 times Psycho 2 - 50 times Mommie Dearest - 50 times 9 To 5 - 40 times Come Back to the 5 & 10, Jimmy Dean - 40 times Coma - 30 times Friday the 13th - 30 times Friday the 13th, Part 2 - 30 times 16 Candles - 20 timesWhatever Happened to Aunt Alice? - 25 times I watched this again a few days ago and Weird Science too. I actually thought Weird Science was the funnier of the two, and elicited more laughs from me, but 16 Candles does has more charm.
I think The Geek is one annoying pain in the derriere though. Sam putting up with his s<>t, only shows how resilient, kind, centered and tolerant she was. Her father pretty much said as much, in a nice scene when she's been regulated to the couch and he realized he had forgotten her bday.

I love "16 Candles". I've never actually seen "Weird Science", but Candles is so cute and warm and the supporting cast is priceless. So many great characters to choose from, but after Samantha, I think Grandma Helen is my favorite. Also love "The Donger". Ahhhh, the days of pre-PC! The Geek doesn't get to me too much. I don't find him that funny, but I don't mind him. I like the part when the two of them are sitting in that make-shift car in the shop room and they bond (if only for 5 minutes). I thought that was a very real moment. In all fairness, Molly Ringwald really did deserve an Oscar nomination. She was extremely believable and charming. And, you're right, Samantha was centered and basically a kind person. How refreshing to come across a movie teenager that is not riddled with angst. Along with "Mommie Dearest" and "9 to 5", "Sixteen Candles" is me and my friend's go to movie for quoting. "Voila! Breakfast is served!"

Toss up between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Probably give the toss to Raiders since it was out a few years earlier of course. I saw both in the theaters and subsequent home media releases including cable, VHS, laserdisc, DVD, bluray, and streaming. Probably seen both well over 100 times. I never tire of them.
Die Hard is up there as well although I missed the first one in the theater somehow. I saw all the subsequent Die Hard films in the theater but only "with a Vengeance" ranks up there in number of times seen total. Probably seen both of these around 75 to 100 times.
The Omega Man and Midway are another two that I've seen quite a few times. The Omega Man was shown on television here when I was a kid quite a bit so saw it with commercials many times. Same thing with Midway although it was actually LONGER than the theatrical release since they added the whole Battle of the Coral Sea as kind of a prelude to the Midway battle on the television version. I sure wish it would be released in this form on bluray. The current DVD/bluray only has the theatrical release. I've seen both of these at least 50 times over the years.
Those are probably my top films at least with how many times I've seen them. Terminator 2 is probably up there too although I haven't seen it in at least 15 years or so. I got burned out on the franchise.

I think the family dynamic aspect, is the more interesting and fun part of 16 Candles. The Geek really annoys me in the workshop scene and notice how he goes around sniffing the air where Sam is. The irreverence of some of the humor, I wonder if that was something consciously deliberate, or if it's only seen that way due to today's standards and perception of things? It needs to be taken in context of when the film was made and I don't mind the non-pc humor, but I was participating in a Molly Ringwald thread recently, where she has commented on some of the issues with how these Hughes films she starred in, presented the situations and character behaviors. Not quoting her verbatim, she said something of the sort, that we really need to see how through these films— including Breakfast Club—that we are somehow responsible for some of our social issues and that she felt uncomfortable showing them to her daughter. Both 16 Candles and Weird Science, can also portray homophobic attitudes. The F-- word is thrown around in both films a few times. I am a bigger fan of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, than 16 Candles or Weird Science, but I enjoy them all for different reasons.
