I don't know how it is where you all live, but I find it annoying that these are so disorganized. You have to dig through so many cases just to find a movie/CD (that is if the movie/CD you want is even there).

it's a business strategy they teach at sales seminars. it's like the garage sale/flea market mentality. they tell businesses to set up a table with walls and just throw all the old product that they want to get rid of so people can root through it. this seems to be the same idea.

I think you have missed the point of those bins.
You expect to pay pennies on the dollar AND get organization?????

Some customer straightened out the movie bin at our Walmart once, went back for some reason the next day and it was a huge mess again!

ck100Those awful bins are also rampant at Best Buy. Even worse are the Pawn America stores where all of the dvds are in racks with the front of the cases facing you (not the spines with the titles visible) so you have to flip through them one by one to see what is what .. then often the disk is damaged or missing.

Some customer straightened out the movie bin at our Walmart once, went back for some reason the next day and it was a huge mess again! on the rare occasions when I have actually dug into one of the bins ~ while waiting for a friend who tends to get lost in stores and disappears forever ! ~ I find myself sorting and stacking so I can tell where I have looked and what is still un-mined territory. I have yet to actually purchase from a bin ~ library used media sales are better !

I ended up straightening one od those out to look for the title i wanted
I've decided if i expect to see a title in those bins, either go to target where they have a special row for it or get it on Amazon where it can be anywhere from 5.99 to 8.99

Good stuff, The Neverending Story, The Pagemaster, Matilda, Clue, Spaceballs, etc.

Some customer straightened out the movie bin at our Walmart once, went back for some reason the next day and it was a huge mess again! I remember picking up several great gems from these bins (well not at Wal-Mart but in my country) back in the early 00s, when VHS was still alive (for a while) and even now I might "stumble" upon some neat surprise, but one have to dig deep for it and I guess most people do not have time or interest and instead it end up looking pretty damn messy after some time. I remember there was this place which had three huge bins lying next to each other. However, one was empty and so I just decided to ditch all the crap and uninteresting titles in there, like my very own garbage bin. Sadly the effort was not worth it as all I found was the same crappy Adam Sandler movies all over the place and I guess they were there for a reason. Anyway, the next week it was just a complete mess and I am pretty much close to giving up on trying to find another piece of "gold" among all the turds.

Good stuff, The Neverending Story, The Pagemaster, Matilda, Clue, Spaceballs, etc. I remember how happy I was finding titles such as The Exterminator (1980), Red Scorpion (1988) and Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) on VHS, all on the same day and lying in the same bin for the price of absolute nothing. Those days are sadly long gone. But it is nice to hear that others have found some solid stuff as well, kind of keep my small hopes of one day finding another one or two, up a little bit.

My most recent visit to a Best Buy, that wasn't the case. Mostly the new releases near the entrance, and five or six aisles of Blu-rays/DVD's on shelves. No godawful bargain bin in sight. But I did unearth a DVD of Beverly Hills Cop from one of those, and because it had the original cover art, I bought it from Best Buy about two years ago.

...I purchase $1 & $2 used DVDs at "Half Priced Books" and I can examine the disk before I purchase it to assure there are no scratches or otherwise. Also, these cheapies are arranged alphabetically.
The Wal Mart experience is equivalent to dumpster diving.

What I hate is unearthing a great movie only to find that it was supposed to be on the shelf for $15-$20 and not in the $5 bin.

They're all jumbled together like a tiny hill. Luckily, though, I do get to find one or two movies that peak my interest to buy them.

Those bins are really only good for holiday titles when the time's right. And yes, the messier bins are indeed more attractive to shoppers.

Probably the same shoppers who corporate think love to be asked "Did you find everything ?" when you are at the checkout !
