She (who is actually "he") is one of my favorite stars. Rough collies are among the most beautiful breeds, and Lassie appeared in a number of memorable movies with numerous character actors and stars-to-be like the young Elizabeth Taylor. Filmed in glorious Technicolor, these films accurately portrayed the British and European countrysides where most of the action took place, even though they were made in California. I suppose it was prohibitive costs, unpredictable weather conditions, and WWII still raging that prevented location shooting, LOL.
Does anyone have any favorite Lassie movies? I'm mostly partial to SON OF LASSIE (the sequel to LASSIE COME HOME) and HILLS OF HOME.

Thanks for the post, and I'm with you on SON -- Peter Lawford (A grownup Roddy McDowell) taking on the Nazis in Norway, accompanied by music from Edvard Greig.
June Lockhart took over for the young Liz role.

She also starred in THE SUN COMES UP, which is notable as Jeannette MacDonald's last movie. I read somewhere that Jeannette was allergic to dogs; I wonder how she got through the filming without suffering any reactions.
I'm so glad that I'm not allergic to animals, especially dogs and cats, as I just LOVE them.

RIP, IMBd, I confess that I'm not familiar with this movie. Who is Lassie's co-star?
I've heard of THE MAGIC OF LASSIE, which is notable as Jimmy Stewart's last film.

I've heard of THE MAGIC OF LASSIE, which is notable as Jimmy Stewart's last film. It's actually four episodes of the series that were put together to make a tv-film. The late Skip Homeier has a small role in the beginning and at the end. The late Jack Bannon plays the young boy's dad.

The first one I really enjoyed. I've only seen bits of the sequels.

The long standing rumor was recently confirmed by the great-great-great-great(etc) grandson of "Lassie" that Rin-Tin-Tin and "Lassie" enjoyed a longtime Bromance. They shared an enthusiasm for swimming, taking long runs on the beach, chasing sticks and rescuing small children from wells and mine collapses. They first met when at the vet getting flea shampoos and being wormed. Their friendship gave them some respite from the rigors of stardom and the prying eyes of paparazzi.
Later "Lassies" and "Rinnys" share a TV Guide Cover

PAL - the original "Lassie"
After playing the original Lassie in Lassie Come Home (1943), Pal was cast in the follow-up, Son of Lassie (1945). He was cast as the title character, however, and another dog played Lassie!. Almost all dogs in the subsequent "Lassie" films and television series have been descendants of Pal. The dog who played Lassie for the first half of season 2 of the TV series Lassie (1997) and the dog who played Lassie in Lassie (2005) were not.

As a kid I thought Lassie was typical "girls stuff", but one grows older and hopefully a bit wiser.

RIP, IMBd, PLEASE change your avatar! I realize that you mourn the earlier message boards (as do I), but symbolizing them as a man drowning in quicksand is nothing but creepy!
Sorry to go OT.

Thank you for the change, RIP. Somehow, a man being struck by lightening isn't so creepy. LOL

Sorry to go OT. My previous avatar WASN'T a man drowning in quicksand. It was a HORNY teenage boy who buried himself up to his head so that one of the sexy female lifeguards would "rescue" him. He DOESN'T drown, rather a nearby creature that is vibrating on the sand causes his head to EXPLODE...thus killing him.
