4/10. As bland and forced as the original film felt fresh and creative. The CGI isn't as bad as I thought it looked in the trailers. But there's no life to it. Everything feels like it's weightless and phony while the original, the monsters and robots had weight and mass to them. The robots at least seemed to have more variety this time. Boyega isn't bad and the girl is actually pretty good. The plot twist that Newt had been brainwashed by the aliens and is now their puppet was bad. Like a last minute change to have this big monster climax. |

I loved the original and it showed you can do a good fighting robot movie without it being stupid. Del Toro directing helped a lot too. This was never where what could have been a franchise should have gone. It’s like they listened to the negatives and said “hmmm well let’s make the 2nd dumber and not really try”. Are you happy now reviewers? You got what you wanted. You got a dumb movie that is on the level of Transformers. Oh wait you still hated it. Gees |
