Been about ten years since I saw it, but I thought it was entertaining enough...even if Orlando Bloom is a weenie.

Loved it. I like that characters on both sides of the war are likeable and hateable.
I really wanted Menalaus to crush that jagoff Paris.

It's no great work of art, but an entertaining sword and sandal mini-epic with a surprisingly strong cast. The fight scenes are great and the Hector vs. Achilles part is pretty powerful.

It's a good sword-and-sandal flick. It helps that it's a bit pulpier and than Gladiator.

Definitely agree. Its not an Oscar type film by any means but damn its pretty entertaining . Pitt & Bana are both badass in this . That fight between them was awesome . 7/10

Still one of my favorites from the oughts decade. The director's extended cut added some interesting bits but it wasn't necessary overall. I didn't like how the soundtrack was changed. The original score is superior, especially the minimalistic sequence during Hector and Achilles fight outside the walls. The Iliad is one of my favorite stories from the ancient world so it was neat seeing it on the screen minus the interference from the gods. I'd still like to see a full blown version of the Iliad including the gods. That would be truly epic.

The first Brad Pitt movie I ever liked. Very underrated and truly epic.

The musical cue for the fight between Achilles and Hector in the director's cut is the opening theme from Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes".

I actually really liked it, one of the most epic movies. Brad Pitt was just perfect casting. Hands down with having the best choreographed fight scenes.

Basically looking at those old days 'war themed movies with swords (and the like)' it's basically my #3 movie behind Braveheart (1995) (10/10)/Gladiator (2000) (8/10)...
6-6.5/10 ; within my Top 236 movies.

Bad version of the book. Where was the talking horse? I missed the Olympians.
I dont think Pitt captured Achilles' moodiness however that opening fight with the spear thrust in the neck was cool.

Bad version of the book. Where was the talking horse? I missed the Olympians. Yep, in the book the Olympian Gods were part of the war and took sides (except for Zeus, who had to remain neutral since he was the King of the Gods) but the movie didn't have that. The movie also didn't have Cassandra's prophecies of doom and didn't have Agamemnon sacrificing his daughter, which Avengers: Infinity War ripped off by having Thanos sacrifice his daughter.

Even though this movie has nothing to do with the MCU, when I saw you posted in this thread I knew it would be a post criticizing something MCU related. You’re truly obsessed.

Oh yeah I remember Cassandra was absent--big miss! Although the 1997 tv miniseries the Odyssey wasn't what I envisioned either, I did like the 20 second version of the Iliad in the opening, especially since they shot it in Turkey near to where the historic site of Troy was said to be.
