First day of the month, so I figured I would go ahead and start a new general discussion thread, one for each month.
Discuss all things MLB here!

Warmer weather is here.
The Santana signing was a head scratcher to me since Hoskins is the Phuture and they moved him to the outfield.
Hoping since we're hitting the warmer temps maybe Santana breaks out of this horrid slump - he's batting an atrocious .154. Still drawing walks though.
This continues until the All-Star break I'd be all for bringing Dylan Cozens back up.....
So far this signing smells like Lance Parrish - an AL guy who just can't hit NL pitching - defenders will state he's hitting the ball hard and BBs right at fielders - how about since part of your game was supposed to be you're an exceptional situational hitter that gets on base - you start dropping some hits conveniently where they can't be caught.

The bigger question is, if Kapler is the stat guy everyone claims he is, then why is Santana still in the lineup? Just because of his place in the payroll? Bench the turd, put Hoskins at first and unclog the outfield.

I'd like to see Roman Quinn finally come up too - don't care if it is August/September - so there's another outfield dilemma - his problem is he's never managed to stay healthy and it's just been injury after injury in the minors...... he's batting .310 for the ironpigs right now

Saw your last post in the old thread about the Yankees Astros game. I watched that game and Charlie Morton was putting on a clinic. Dominance in every sense.

The money was a bit puzzling given the market (the Phillies basically asked Santana what he wanted and gave it to him, sight unseen) but the signing unto itself is a good one other than forcing Hoskins to take the full-time position switch. A young team can always use stable veteran leadership which Santana brings. Don't worry about his average, which will never be particularly great anyway. His BABIP is well below league average, as well as his career average, and it's actually impossible for it to remain so low. He'll come around and be fine. As for Hoskins, playing left field doesn't seem to be bothering him.

I admit I didn’t know much about Santana other than I liked his appearance at Woodstock, but so far he doesn’t seems to be worth the money. They “demoted” him from 2nd to 5th in the lineup. He hasn’t done jack shit since that song he did with the guy from Matchbox 20.

One of the worst shows I've ever seen. He had a 90 minute slot and he basically just played sprawling jam session solos where he'd play a guitar solo for a few minutes, then walk off stage for 15 minutes while his band played. They'd finish, he'd come back out, they'd play Evil Ways then jam while he disappeared again.

Morton, Verlander and Cole all have been completely dominant for the Astros this season, all ERA’s under 2.00, they are just marvelous, and Keuchel and McCullers are good starters as well. Best starting rotation in MLB to go along with arguably the best lineup even if a lot of guys are underperforming, and their bullpen is extremely underrated with Giles, Devenski, Harris and Rondon. The Astros are the best team in MLB by far.

Blue Jays rollin' into May like they want no part of tanking or the playoffs. Go Raptors.

Looks like Jacob deGrom is going to be OK and will try to make his next start against the hapless Reds. Given the team's track record with letting pitchers right back out there, only to then suffer-season ending injuries, I find this rather puzzling. Yes, the MRI revealed no structural damage which is fantastic news and yes they fired that amazingly incompetent medical staff, but you can't let him skip one start just as a precaution?
deGrom, Syndergaard and Cespedes are the team's most important players by a wide margin. One of them goes down, it would be a crisis. Can't afford to be cavalier with the throwing arm of what has been the team's best player thus far.
