Ho-hum, another home invasion movie. I was bored with it after 20 minutes and then - hey ho! - it swings a huge curveball at the viewer (better watch out!). I really like the twist it took, and at first I didn't think much of the two leads, but their performances grew on me as the film went on. On the downside, for an R rated movie with three violent deaths there was hardly any gore, which was odd. It also maybe petered out a bit, but deserves some credit for eschewing the typical cliched ending. 6/10

I think I made a thread recommending this back when it came out. I loved it! A lot of fun. Didn’t mind the lack of gore because it was so entertaining. It’s probably my second favorite Christmas horror movie after the original Black Christmas. And I gotta say Olivia DeJonge sure is pretty.

I agree on all points. Very well reviewed. It somehow manages to be original and unpredictable which is a feat considering how rote it seems at the beginning. Good stuff for the most part. It does lose some steam towards the end, but the scene of the kid breaking back into the house at the end is very well put together and has a tension that you don't know how to feel about.
One critique I have, though, is that it's set at Christmas time, but other than some nice visual flair and scenery, that has nothing to do with the story or even the tone. It's just kind of there in the background. The movie could have been set at any other time and it would have made absolutely no difference.
Still, the cast is good and it looks very nice throughout, and the director does a good job staging the sequences that could have been bland if they weren't shot as well. He finds inventive ways to make it look good despite the confines of his setting and limited cast.
I also gave it a 6/10, and I am looking forward to seeing what this guy makes next. As well as these actors, actually.

It was alright. I guessed the twist almost right away.
