Was it any good?
No. That is not a quote. That is a question I have about the movie. Another one I have is: Was the sex filmed in it real or simulated?

Another one I have is: Was the sex filmed in it real or simulated? a little from column a, a little from column b. There's even a scene, as perfectly described by The Cinema Snob, where a man with an ass where his stomach should be gets a rim job.

One of the most bizarre films I've ever watched. I had the old DVD with the extended version on it with the uncut "X" rated scenes in it. A lot of it is definitely real, and not simulated, especially the stuff with the Penthouse "pets". I believe if you search the web there is (maybe gone now) a site that has a lot of background information on it, including an interview with one of the male Italian extras that definitely partook of some non-simulated action if you catch my drift.
I still don't know how they managed to land Malcolm McDowell and Peter O'Toole for this thing. I still think Caligula the emperor screams for a modern treatment. So much material from the Roman Empire that still not portrayed in film, even inaccurately.
Favorite line: (delivered by Peter O'Toole as Tiberius)
"Rome is a republic and you and I are playing citizens. More confection. That's the best of my stallions. Serve the state, Caligula, although the people in it are wicked beasts."

Well, watching the uncensored version sticks in the memory. I'd like to hear the audio commentary with Mirren and McDowell!
The scene that I remember best other than one of the porn sequences is the decapitator machine. At least I found out what happened to Sutorius Macro (in I, Claudius his fate was not shown--memorably portrayed by John Rhys-Davies in that version).
