Iron Man v. Tyler Durden?
Both are fine actors but I give the slight edge to Downey Jr.

Pitt still challenges himself while Downey mostly makes Iron Man/Avengers films.

I have only seen 2 movies with Brad Pitt and that gues role on Friends.
The only thing i have seen with Robert Downey Jr are his Iron man roles and his role on Ally McBeal.
So i am going to say Downey

Brad Pitt. Nothing against Downey, but Pitt has shown improvement not only in acting, but in role selection and film selection that comes with the added bonus of being able to choose with fame.
His early career was crap movies, but he has since been in what are obviously going to be undeniable classics in time with the four letter titles TROY and FURY, both at least 9/10 by any critique not tainted by jealousy or bigotry.
Pitt has become the true super star of today.

I don't think I've ever seen a Brad Pitt movie aside from World War Z

easily Pitt. Downey Jr is pretty much a one trick pony at this point (though I LOVED Zodiac and thought he deserved a nom for his supporting role) . All he does is collecting huge paychecks as Iron Man (can't really hate though cause Disney is paying very very well but I didn't appreciate what RDJ said about independent films. Something so smug & arrogant about him)
Pitt has given some insanely great performances over the past few decades (his best as Jesse James or Tyler Durden) and still challenges himself to this day . Can't wait for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood & Ad Astra (both 2019 films ) . Just looked at RDJ's upcoming projects and of course its another Avengers sequel , another Sherlock Holmes sequel & a fucking Dr Dolittle remake. haha smh

Brad Pitt ; hands down. especially given in terms of movies he's easily ahead of Downey Jr. but in terms of overall presence I think Pitt is better.
Downey Jr has no movies worth mentioning where as Brad Pitt has the following movies that stand out... Spy Game(9/10 ; underrated)/Interview with the Vampire(8/10)/Meet Joe Black(7.5-8/10)/Troy(6-6.5/10). basically if it were not for the Iron Man movies (and the like), Downey Jr would be largely forgotten. put aside Iron Man, Brad Pitt will be easily more remembered long term in my estimations.
