Aside from the original, I think the best in the series is the 3rd film. Part 2, while pretty bad, has this gem -
Hi, Ronnie. So, you going to Lisa's house tomorrow night?
Nope - Can't - I'm grounded.
How come?
I threw my grandmother down a flight of stairs.

The original is my second favourite horror film and Dream Warriors is the best sequel by far. New Nightmare is also very good. Part 2 was quite inferior to the original in every way but still watchable. Part 4 was pretty good if a bit silly. 5 is weird and Freddy's Dead is just bad. Freddy vs. Jason was a lot of fun, though.
The remake was, while not terrible, very flawed and felt unnecessary. Still better than Freddy's Dead and perhaps even part 5.

I have been a huge fan of the series since I was like 11 or 12. Freddy is one of my favorite movie villains.
My order 1. The Dream Master - 10/10 2. The Dream Child - 9/10 3. A Nightmare on Elm Street '84 - 9/10 4. Freddys Revenge - 9/10 5. New Nightmare - 9/10 6. Dream Warriors - 8/10 7. Freddys Dead - 5/10 8. Nightmare on Elm Street '10 - 1/10 (The worst remake ever and one of the worst films I have ever seen.)

The first is the only good movie in the franchise because it is more serious and I have to say, the premise (like most horror movies) gets pretty fast. The first and the third are the best because the protagonists are as compelling as Freddy Krueger himself, while the other movies the protagonists are just there to get killed off mostly. We actually care about what happens to Nancy and Kristen. I also love the setting of the movie and how it gets into the psychology of the characters.
The original is also the only scary movie in the franchise. I actually think 2 is the second scariest but the writing is just very unfocused. I do like the whole gay subtext though.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 is easily the third best movie in the franchise and it has the great cockroach trap scene, which is one of the most inventive scenes in horror movie history imo. It's just to bad the main group of teenagers are different actors than Dream Warriors and Renny Harlin is not a very good filmmaker.
New Nightmare is my least favorite of the original franchise (unpopular opinion, I know) but it is just feels too self-induldent to me, and it feels very generic too. I kind of like the reality/movie crossover but I don't think the movie does it in an interesting way at all.
Th remake is just awful and pointless.

The original is my favorite horror film of all time. [yes]
Freddy’s Revenge...pretty solid. It’s still kind of creepy and the pool scene is great. Some of the other moments feel odd...like the weird gym coach. I mean was he gonna rape him? Who takes their student to the showers in the middle of the night? That whole sequence was always strange to me.
Dream Warriors...the best of the sequels. Cool characters, a great concept in the dream powers, and the return of Nancy from the original.
Dream Master...An obvious step down. Alice is cool but the rest of the characters are boring and the kills are pretty weak.
Dream Child...Was always my least favorite just because of how gross it is at times. There’s some really grotesque moments in this one.
Freddy’s Dead...as a comedy it always made me laugh. The most cartoonish Freddy had ever gotten. Not bad so long as you aren’t trying to be scared.
New Nightmare...third favorite overall. Freddy was creepy again. Big fan of Nancy/Heather. Rip Rex!
The remake...creepy but uninspired. The plot flip flops on the ‘did Freddy do it’ idea and I thought they’d change it up and have him wrongly killed by an angry mob...but turns out he was a creepy child killer pedo all along so it all feels like wasted drama.
