It always seemed stupid to me that it was essentially illegal except in Nevada. Like what’s so special about Nevada? I despise Chris Christie but I agreed with him on his gambling stance. No reason it shouldn’t be everywhere. The leagues can say what they want, they objected because they wanted a piece of the action.

About time. The US gambling laws are straight from the Puritans. Surprised the punishment isn't a month in the pillory. Welcome to the 21st Century!

So prostitution next. Freedom of business. It really should be. If you have a willing buying and a willing seller and no one else gets injured by that contract, really everything should be legal.

So prostitution next. Freedom of business. It's utterly ridiculous that it's illegal. Prostitution has existed forever and no one has able to stop it. Two days after D-Day, hookers were running brothels out of abandoned landing craft on the Norman beaches. Legalize, regulate, tax.

You'll love sports gambling.
You can't go five minutes through a game without Ray Winstone popping up saying "Have a bet you slag".

The Supreme Court is only making it legal to do what most people were already doing anyway. No federal law is going to stop sports gambling just like no federal law stopped people from drinking during Prohibition.

All of the sports owners who live in states that will pass this will get betting windows into their stadiums and arenas. It may help get people back into the home parks and arenas - - would be a lot of fun to sit around with 50,000 other fans while you have money on the game or against some of your rivals.

This is probably going to be a disaster. We're going to be inundated by sportsbook advertising, the teams and players will get cozy with the gambling companies, which could be perceived as an issue, and problem gambling is probably going to soar. Australia is the blueprint for everything wrong with legalized gambling, but I'm not certain politicians and others have the will to stop us falling into the same traps.

I haven't bet since the late 70s when a guy in my office game though with slips, other than at a few times at the track and casino. I seriously need to not get pulled in.

Australia is the blueprint for everything wrong with legalized gambling, but I'm not certain politicians and others have the will to stop us falling into the same traps. What’s wrong with legalised gambling in Australia ? And what are these ‘traps’ you speak of ? Aside from aggressive marketing (however some of the gambling ads are actually quite funny), and the obligatory ‘cross’ to some peanut for an update on the betting market before a live sporting event (with the usually deadpan deer in headlights bad reading off an auto cue annoyance) it’s completely harmless, and no different to any other form of gambling......

Exactly. Main problem we have here is pokies (a bloody awful thing) and spot betting.

Back room and street corner bookies are all out of business! No more need to fear being knee-capped if you can't pay your gambling bill.
