What drama last night at the European Championships quarter-final between Ireland and Holland. At a vital stage in the penalty shootout, Irish keeper Corcoran was faced with a must-save kick from Holland's Redan. He did save it. But the ref Zbynek Proske not only carded the keeper for coming off his line but sent him off as it was his second yellow of the game. A bizarre few minutes which ended in Holland going through to the semis and Ireland, in my eyes, unfairly eliminated. The commentators here can't believe it, and provide four minutes of great entertainment with their can't-believe-it commentary.
Video and report as harsh ref eliminates Ireland

A yellow card for coming off his line too soon? I've never seen this before. Seems really harsh, unless it was really blatant AND a repeated offense. What happened with just having the penalty retaken?

Don't worry, American sports will soon be as corrupt as international events now that sports betting has been legalized.

Damn, the son of a bitches have removed it. Why???
Here's another version, but unfortunately no commentary - it does show the sending off, though. In the original video Martin O'Neill and others confronted the ref to no avail. This is a poor substitute but all I can find :
Shootout
plus, reaction from Irish TV :
Molloy and Kilblaine debate it

Cheers, Arthur! He didn't look very far off his line at all. That original link did include a video of a similar incident in a youth tourney of 2017 so it has happened before.
