I've seen several people reference that for a while IMDb was showing the film having a 5.4/10 rating with thousands of votes. If so, then this is further proof that, in the age of professional trolls, audience ratings mean nothing anymore. The only one to trust (somewhat) is Cinema Score, because they poll people as they are actually leaving screenings, which makes it harder for trolls to game the system. Even that has to be taken with a grain of salt however, because immediate reactions are often skewed either too high or too low. Case in point: They Come At Night getting a D rating, which many believe was more a reaction by viewers angry that they were misled about the true nature of the film (haven't seen it, but from what I hear it isn't really a horror movie even thought it was marketed as one), rather than a comment on the actual quality of the film.

It's early, and this is what happens with every big release. It either starts out way too high or way too low. It will eventually even out; it always does.

I can't relate to the idea of "trusting" a rating from other people. No one else's tastes seem to correlate with mine (either positively or negatively) better than random, really.

This pretty much summed up Imdb in a nutshell.
