Jaws, Jurassic Park, and the first three Indiana Jones movies. I can't believe no one else voted for Temple of Doom, that movie is sickeningly underrated. It's not really not that great of a film but I think people held it much higher regard after the "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" came out. Hell, I always liked it growing up. Way before the fourth film came out. It's not as good as Raiders or Crusade, but I always found it to be the most adventurous and with possibly the best villain. It was refreshing to get away from all the Nazi stuff too. Willie and Short Round were both annoying as hell though.

But in this order: Raiders of the Lost Ark Jurassic Park Jaws The Last Crusade Temple of Doom (sometimes I may like better than TLC)

In chronological order:
JAWS CLOSE ENCOUNTERS RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK E.T. EMPIRE OF THE SUN
runner ups: DUEL 1941 INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM THE COLOR PURPLE A.I.
Many of his very serious dramatic films post Schinder's List style, I can find a bit self-important, although still exceptional on a film-making level.

I can't believe no one else voted for Temple of Doom, that movie is sickeningly underrated. It's not as good as Raiders or Crusade I am not so sure why you are having trouble believing it.... Many voters here preferred other Steven Spielberg films, to even the Best film in the "Indiana Jones" franchise... And even you rated "Temple of Doom" at least #3 in the "Indiana Jones" franchise. And with only five picks allowed in this poll, odds were pretty good, that "Temple of Doom" would not be picked.

Jaws, Jurassic Park, and the first three Indiana Jones movies. I can't believe no one else voted for Temple of Doom, that movie is sickeningly underrated. Temple Of Doom in a sense, does leave Raiders for dead, however, it doesn't quite have exactly the same charm about it either. Wille and the kid are annoying, and lack the chemistry between Indy and Marion in Raiders.

It was refreshing to get away from all the Nazi stuff too. Willie and Short Round were both annoying as hell though. I agree Temple is underrated to an extent. The opening at Club Obi-Wan, the collapsing spiked room, the heart-ripping scene, voodoo doll fight, the mine car chase and the final rope bridge sequence are all exciting action scenes. You've also got Ford, Lucas and Spielberg during their creative peak and full of enthusiasm.
Where it falls short in comparison to Raiders & Last Crusade for me is the film's script. The plot and characterizations are rather thin. The other two films had a strong central relationship with Indy and his respective main companion (Marion and Henry Sr.) while in Temple, Willie and Short Round (the latter of whom I find more tolerable than most) are simply there to tag along for the ride. The central treasure hunt is also lacking because the Sankara Stones aren't as interesting of a macguffin as the Ark or Holy Grail and the villains (whom we don't see until an hour in) never find all five stones, so the battle never has a sense of urgency.
I would rank it in the middle of Spielberg's filmography. It's nowhere near his worst films (for my money, 1941 and Hook), but not solid enough to be among his very best.

Jaws Raiders of the Lost Ark Schindler's List E.T. Jurassic Park
Temple of Doom while my fav Indy sequel, is no match for those. I can't believe his last great film was Minority Report.

Jaws Schindler's List (I can't seem to figure out why that isn't dominating in the poll)Raiders of the Lost Ark Saving Private Ryan Jurassic Park
Perhaps because it is a bit bland in presentation, and doesn't exactly hold the easiest replay value factor for many.

The only Steven Spielberg movies I've given a 10/10 to so far are JAWS and WAR OF THE WORLDS, and the only ones I've given a 9/10 to are BRIDGE OF SPIES and E.T.

Yes, finally I come across a super cool person who thinks SL is bland! I did not like that movie one bit. It was both bland and boring and overlong and pretentious, and I thought it was one of those all-too obvious Oscar baiters, by the King of Hollywood, no less, Steven Speilberg, who won everything that year. I know it's a very serious theme that should be not outright be mocked, but, like that super smart lady, Pauline Kael, once said (actually I think she said it many times, but...) and that is that great subject matter or a great theme for a movie does not always translate into a great movie. She didn't like SL, either! My fave Spielbergs "Jaws" "Duel" "Eyes" - Night Gallery segment with Joan Crawford! "E.T." "The Sugarland Express"

"The Sugarland Express" SL is one Spielberg film I don't care to own or re-visit. After all the hype and viewing it a few times, it just didn't grab me as emotionally or gut wrenchingly as I thought it would. I think people just like on it because of it's theme, and because that they feel that they have to, otherwise they will be seen as heartless. It was a good story, just the execution of it I feel played it a bit too safe. Yes, it was a tad pretentious, self-important and even self-aggrandizing....Gees, look Ma! Look at what I made. I've grown up!
I think Elim Klimov's Come And See -85' is a far superior, more potent, artistic and even poetic presentation. This film stunned me.
I really like The Sugarland Express, but I prefer Duel a bit more and couldn't quite fit it into my top 10. I also find something a bit off with his presentation of how the police are portrayed in TSE. His filming of them and their vehicles is superb, but I'm not quite sure what slant or stance he is taking with this film. Is it in favor of the cops, or the fugitives who are only doing what they feel is right in the face of authorities that may only appear to have it's citizens best interests at heart? Goldie Hawn, does give perhaps her best performance here though.
