It saddens me to believe that it is incredibly low. Probably below 5%. Or at least going by personal experience, by the people I have encountered in my life. And most of these good people are old age, born long before the social media obsessed idiotic times we live in now. Most young and middle aged people I know are fake, selfish, narcissistic people. Do you think this is accurate or maybe I've just had bad luck?
But maybe it's only like this in western countries and the way we are brought up. Perhaps poorer countries are home to much more decent human beings.
Thoughts?

I don't think of anyone as "truly good," "truly bad," etc.
I think of some particular acts as good or bad. Not people overall.

I would say the percentage that aren't sexist, homophobic, racist, narcissistic, mean spirited, rapists, pedophiles, murderers and terrorists are mostly good people but nobody is perfect and we all make some mistakes.

See if you were talking about a particular time period or about a particular set of people you met one time in life and said only 5% of them were like good then it could have been OK. But the fact that you believe only 5% of people you have met over your life time are good should be concerning. Everything in life follows standard normal distribution. On average the people you have met in life are no better or worse than people who post here on this board or people who have replied to this topic. But no one here is saying that they are horrible people. So this all boils to your expectations with people. Perhaps you ask too much of people? or it could be true that most of us (including myself) have a victim mentality. We ask too much of others and require higher standards from others but do not give back the same. Only that could explain the 5% figure that you have attributed as percentage of good people. |

Same here. When i look back at life I see some things where I was so wrong but thought so differently abut those things in the past. Well...but time that has gone is gone.
