www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/window-closing-mets-headed-crossroads-article-1.3995279More silliness from the NY Daily News. Syndergaard is under contract until 2022 and DeGrom in 2021. Why the fuck would they trade them? And if they did trade one, it sure as hell wouldn't be to the Yanks. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Mess make a run for Manny Machado. A starter (not Thor), one of the Nimmo/Conforto outfielders and a prospect. If Baltimore doesn't want to have a lengthy rebuild, they get two pieces that are already MLB proven.

If they'd trade them, it would be to free up money for the rebuild the Mets need to do (and to get some pieces in the trade for the rebuild). Usually the Mets and Yankees don't trade, but in this case they each have something else the other really needs (the Yankees have an overabundance of quality players in their farm system; meanwhile, they need to boost their pitching staff a bit) . . . which isn't to say that a trade would happen, but in this case, it's why it's not a completely absurd idea.
Re Machado, they were talking about that on the radio a lot yesterday, and it could defnitely happen, but something I don't understand about the talk is this: it's not like the Mets are going to be a contender by just adding one piece like Machado--no more than Baltimore would be a contender by keeping one piece like Machado. So if the Mets would be willing to spend that kind of money for him, I don't see why Baltimore wouldn't be willing to spend that kind of money to keep him. The Mets need to do a rebuild. Their farm system sucks right now. Spending a ton of money on an established player like Machado or Harper is like putting a diamond or two on a pile of crap.
The Mets are going to be lucky to end the season above the Marlins in the standings, and the Marlins are a trainwreck right now. Just one or two players won't change that--they already have those types of players from past trades a la Cespedis, etc. Adding one or two more might give them a temporary uptick, but it's not going to win them anything, and it's not any sort of viable long-term solution. MLB isn't the NBA where one player, if he's good enough, can basically win the game for a team on any consistent basis.

More tabloid trash, no way either Thor or DeGrom go to the Yankees, Mets arenβt trading them.

Never happen, but I could see them going after Machado in the offseason. Trading for him would be a mistake given what the likely cost would be, but if they go the entire offseason without so much as sniffing around on Bryce Harper or Manny Machado to sign then I'm going to be pretty mad.
I don't agree with the idea that they need to blow the whole thing up and start over. When you have guys like deGrom and Syndergaard under team control for a few more years, the notion of selling them off for unproven prospects seems backwards to me. They're a game over .500 after playing some terrible baseball. That was coming off an incredible start that saw just about everything go their way. The team is somewhere in the middle of those two teams, nowhere near as bad as made out to be. The Cespedes injuries, again, are concerning but the team will be alright.

Mets need prospects and the Yanks have them. But trading those two puts the Mets in rebuild while turning the Yankees into a 120 win team. How would that be in the Mets best interests? Mets could become the 21st Century St. Louis Browns, playing second fiddle to the more glamorous stepsister up the street.

i smell machado going to the braves... Phillies and Mets are possibilities, but the Braves can make the best offer. No way the Yankees will go for him. They'll need pitching and the O's won't send him to a division rival, even for a summer rental.

They don't have any significant offense. There are way too many slots in the batting order that are going to be outs the vast majority of the time. The start of the season was a fluke. They've gone 8-17 since then. Syndergaard has been shaky in the last 2-3 starts, Matz has been shaky for awhile, deGrom's situation seems questionable injury-wise, and Cespedis can't stay healthy. Conforto doesn't seem able to stay out of long slumps, etc. The bigger problem is that when anyone is hurt, the guys we have to call up from the minors are basically disasters on the major league level. And guys are hurt often.

i smell machado going to the braves... Yeah, I could see that. Braves have room but probably don't feel in the Bryce Harper zone.

I generally expect this kind of waste of time article from ESPN.
