I saw about 40 minutes of it and overall to be honest it seemed kinda weird and not very good, does it get any better as it goes along? I saw that it received high scores overall so I was expecting something at least better than average, but so far this movie does nothing for me really.

Looks great, non-stop action, no characters so ultimately no immersion. 5/10

I guess part of the reason why I dislike it is because I really can't stand modern films though.

I didn't like it at all.
None of the characters were interesting, the story bored me.
There were some good effects and car chase sequences but after a time those become boring, too.

Second best next to Road Warrior. It isn't perfect due to its lack of story and not enough character treatment, but it has a ton of action and it may be the most raw film of the franchise. I like it.

Let that be a lesson: If a film that comes out in modern times and receives high scores, it's not going to be good.
Case in point, fury road, and Creed. Don't believe the hype!

@joetorrence
looks like we are pretty much on the same page with this one.
in fact, I thought that movie was pretty weak until Charlize Theron/Tom Hardy met up (roughly 30min into the movie I think) which at that point it became more watchable but still ultimately a average/forgettable movie overall as it's got no re-watch value and that's what ultimately make or breaks movies in the long run in my mind. I think it's quite overrated as it's 8.1/10 average score is a joke as that's VERY high as a 6.x/10 (tops) is more realistic if you ask me. either way, that movie should be no were near a 8.0/10+ range.

The movie starts off with a long scene of non-stop action. The problem is that we don't know who's who yet.
Wouldn't it make more sense to let us get to know the characters just a little bit first? Get us emotionally involved in their conflict, and THEN the action will be so much more suspenseful. Otherwise, I'm just watching strangers, not knowing who is who, involved in a chase.
In answer to your question, the movie did get a little bit better (because we finally got to know the characters a tiny bit in the middle part of the movie). But the visually impressive action in the first act was basically wasted.
Also, while I like Tom Hardy, he's nowhere near as cool and likable as Mel Gibson in the role of Max. I rate the movie a solid 7/10, but find it quite overrated.

Long, boring movie filled with uninteresting characters and Tom Hardy just being a shadow of Mel Gibson. Good final half hour, but not enough to save the this from just being an average movie. I rate it below even Beyond Thunderdome, and I'm not crazy about that one.

No characters, no story, tons of action without any real stakes (because you don't care about anyone involved). Not confident enough in its feminist message, so it sacrifices subtlety (or even indifference) for scenes where feminist messages are literally written on the walls. Ironically, this is what generated the hype around the film, so I guess it was the right move after all.
Personally, I want my sociopolitical messages cleverly crafted into the story-- hell, I want there to be a story at all. So no, I don't think it's a good film.
