In the EPL, only 6 teams have a positive goal differene (The top 6) In LA Liga , 7 teams finished with a positive GD (The top 5 plua Gatafe (8) and Sociedad (11). Some teams still have one game to play In Serie A it was the top 8 plus Torino (10). Some teams still have one game to play In the Bundesliga it was the top 6 plus 7th and 8th had a 0 GD In Ligue 1, it was the top 6 plus Nice (8) and Montpellier (10) In Scotland's SPL it was the top 6. In that league the 12 teams are separated into two groups for the final 5 matches based on positions at time of split and all those in the top split had positive GDs and the bottom 6, negative GDs.

Interesting stats. I just checked last seasons stats for few leagues....it seems 7 is the median for teams with +GD in bigger leagues. Should be around 10 (out of 20 teams) if leagues are not biased toward bigger teams but it seems top 5 bigger teams win by more goals than smaller teams lose and so the discrepancy.
