What would you say are the best younger and older actor/actress pair that played the same character?
Some examples:
Mackenzie Foy and Jessica Chastain - Interstellar
Kate Winslet and Gloria Stewart - Titanic
River Pheonix and Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Picking the worst isn't exactly hard.............

Every time I watch Interstellar I think Foy looks more like a young Hathaway rather than a young Chastain.
Oreste Baldini, De Niro and Brando as Vito Corleone.

I don't want to necessarily count De Niro and Brando for Vito Corleone. Only because De Niro was in his 30's when he did that role even though I'm sure the story is trying to portray him younger. I'm aiming for young actors going from child years to early 20's.

Then why include Winslet/Stewart and Phoenix/Ford? Neither pair fits your criteria.

Winslet was 21 when she made Titanic. Phoenix was 23. I said up to early 20's.

Okay, so what's wrong with Baldini and Brando?

Nothing. I didn't say there was anything wrong with Baldini and Brando. I think to avoid confusion and to make things more inclusive, I'll take back what I said and let you include De Niro and Brando. I mean he is a younger actor and Brando is the older actor. Plus, that movie shows how the younger Vito gradually becomes the older Vito. Sorry about all this. lol.

After reading our exchange over again, it was my misunderstanding. You don't want to count De Niro as the younger of the pair. I see what you mean now. I really think Baldini looks more like a young Michael than young Vito. But since they're all supposed to be from the same line, it still works.

I guess what I was trying to go for is that the performances of the younger actor/actress and older actor/actress are so good that you could buy the younger actor/actress growing up into the older actor/actress.

I understand. Thanks for elaborating on that. It would take too long to explain how I misread the op. I'm going to blame it on the fact that it's almost 5am here. Yeah, that's it.

Some examples: Mackenzie Foy and Jessica Chastain - Interstellar Don't forget Ellen Burstyn. She gave the emotional punch to the end.
