So many great scenes in so many great films. "The Grapes of Wrath"
Ma Joad "[the family is leaving the farm, heading for California] Al Joad: Ain't you gonna look back, Ma? Give the ol' place a last look? Ma Joad: We're going' to California, ain't we? All right then let's go to California. Al Joad: That don't sound like you, Ma. You never was like that before. Ma Joad: I never had my house pushed over before. Never had my family stuck out on the road. Never had to lose everything I had in life."
AND Tom Joad: "I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build - I'll be there, too."

Marilyn, I love the first two, but can you tell me what the last two are? The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, when the nazi general realizes they put his son in the oven by mistake. I'll be honest, that movie f!@#$d me up for days. Very powerful. Rocky, when he proposes to Adrienne at the zoo

Rocky, when he proposes to Adrienne at the zoo Oh, Lord, I haven't seen The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and now I don't know if I can. The older I get the harder it is to see the world's horrors on film. I've heard wonderful things about that film, however, so I know it must have done its job well. As for Rocky, I saw it so long ago, and I don't remember that scene very well. But I'm glad to know it meant so much to you. I'm actually touched by all the responses to this thread. It's good to be able to see how much films have moved people. I think the capacity for empathy that the best of films elicits brings out the best in everyone. Rocky proposes to Adrian in the second movie.

The last scene in 1937's Make Way For Tomorrow.
Oh, Mike, I've never been able to watch this one, because everyone says it's so heartbreaking. I guess I'm going to have to break down and make myself do it, though, because so many people love it. Please try to watch it when you have a chance, it's a heartbreaker! As a full-time live-in caregiver it tore me apart to see the way the parents were treated. A film ahead of its time and, unfortunately one of the very few films from the era that still holds true.

A film ahead of its time and, unfortunately one of the very few films from the era that still holds true. Will do, Mike. Here's another vote for MWFT. It has so much going for it, not the least of which is what I'd call the best work of both Beulah Bondi and Victor Moore on film. I put it at the top of director Leo McCarey's efforts as well, and it's refreshingly free of the maudlin sentiment into which he had a tendency to become mired. That's not to say it's free of sentiment, but what there is is honest, as is the entire film. The family dynamics portrayed are credibly complex, with neither "white hats" nor "black hats" in evidence, instead presenting fully dimensional characters warts and all, with well-rendered understanding for their individual motivations, difficulties, foibles and conflicting priorities. Equally honest is its refusal to engage in neat resolutions to everything at the fadeout, no doubt figuring into Mike's description as "ahead of its time," its relevance and resonance these 80 years on, and perhaps its relative neglect among better remembered landmarks of the era. While not always an easy film to watch, it's a rewarding one and comes with a high recommendation from me.

In Lasse Hallströms The Cider House Rules when Homer (Tobey Maguire) says Goodnight, you princes of Maine. You kings of New England. [/i] instead of Dr. Larch (Michael Caine) The last scenes in The Bridges of Madison County and The English Patient also got to me.

When Vito listens to Mike while in a bed and you can see tears streaming over his face as well, The Godfather completely forgot how underrated his expressions are.

many scenes in BAD SANTA - especially the interactions between the innocent therman merman (brett kelly in one of the greatest performances by a child actor) and the disillusioned and world weary willy soak (played by billy bob thorton). the best one at the breakfast table when willy tells therman that there is no santa claus.
the scene in RAGING BULL where jake (de niro) rings up his brother pesci and does not say anything when he picks up. an enraged pesci growls "your mother sucks giant elephants dicks" over the phone.
the scene in TAXI DRIVER when travis is hurt when the lady at the movie hall is rude to him and he tells her why cant you be nice.

Are you talking about the scene where Travis takes Betsy to the porn movie? I agree with Betsy: what kind of man takes a woman he's just met to a porno flick on a first date?

In Star Trek II: The wrath of khan, when you know the Enterprise won't get warp speed back fast enough to escape the effect of the Genesis wave, and you see Spock rise from his chair and you know what he is about to do. It gets me every time I watch it, a being who prided himself on logic and not giving in to emotion. He could, of course give a logical explanation for what he did when he saved the crew, but I know he did it out of love.

All she said was she didn't want to be bothered, Travis kept pushing the matter, and she called for security ("Troy!"). Abbott was married to DeNiro at the time they made the movie.

...the scene in "The Man From Snowy River" when Tom Burlinson rides almost vertically down an Australian mountain side aboard his mountain horse chasing the wild brumbies, while his horse riding comrades stare in awe while they stay back...
This scene gets me every time...!!!
