B+ Freddy isn't as scary as when I was a kid... when he's not terrorizing, he's kinda flimsy in real time battle.

I had seen this movie as a kid but had forgotten almost all of it. It was like watching it for the first time.
Very good film, highly original, and solid performances. 8/10

6/10. More strange than scary. The premise remains one of the best I've seen for a horror film.

So many people say Freddy is the one movie monster who really scared them. But I just didn’t find the movie all that scary—except for that one scene in the school hallway, the one place the movie plays tricks with “what is real and what is a dream.” It should have done that “what is real” thing throughout.

I give it a 7.5/10. Agree with other sentiments. The concept is original and considering this came when slasher movies were in full swing it offered something different but you know they could have done a lot more with it. The hallway scene showed the potential. I give it an extra half for Heather Langenkamp--unlike the slasher films--the focus is more on the mystery of the dreams and the parents' secret instead of a virgin nerd story line.
Isn't it interesting though--Freddy was killed by the parents who felt they wouldn't/didn't get justice from the legal system and he had the power to come back to get revenge. The child molester wins--and in the sequels he becomes an entertainer for the audience--telling jokes etc.

Agreed with Prime on Heather Langenkamp—she’s such a likable protagonist. And she’s even better in New Nightmare, even though I’m not as fond of the film as I once was. (It’s another Craven with a better premise than execution.)
