Very Underrated Movie in the "STAR TREK" Movie Franchise!
I actually think that it is 1 of the Top 4 Best.

The best of the Chris Pine movies so far. It plays fast and loose with Trek history and mythology, but it's still fun and entertaining.

One of the best Star Trek films I've ever watched. There was good action and character development for James Kirk, and Nero was a pretty good villain.

It's a dumbed down abomination. Only those blinded by lens flare will like it.

Its pretty damn good (wouldn't call it "underrated" at all ) cause it was praised by film critics & audiences alike (made a shit ton of money domestically at least) .
I really think that Jar Jar Abrams did a much better job rebooting ST than SW . IMO his SW film was utter shit while the ST films have at least some admirable characters in it and some good/interesting story lines .

I get what you're saying, but it seemed to me like he was more suited for Star Wars than Star Trek. If there is one downside to the film, it's that it's clear Abrams is trying to make Star Trek be like Star Wars.

The biggest being that it's trying to remake/rehash Wrath of Khan.

I remembered liking it when I saw it a couple years after its release, but I bought the DVD last year and I wasn't impressed. Abrams usually has some good action in his movies, but this was just messy shaky cam nonsense.

But all he ended up doing was basically remaking A New Hope with shitty new annoying characters . I couldn't stand the whole quick Finn & Poe bromance . And Rey 's very laughable grasp of the Force . Everything just felt off imo . As for his Star Trek 2009 film, he actually hit the jackpot with Chris Pine as Kirk & Quinto as Spock . They were very likable and I found myself rooting for them all the way . Lens flares aside , I felt it was a superior film all around. If I had to rate them ... Star Trek 2009 - 7.5/10 The Force Awakens - 5/10

And there's a lot of downsides to Into Darkness. The biggest being that it's trying to remake/rehash Wrath of Khan. Oh very true there. Into Darkness has some good stuff in it but thats definitely one of its bigger faults. Would have killed for Del Toro to be Khan btw . Oh well.

It's so blatant with Kirk dying and Spock yelling "KHAN!". I mean give me a break. The original death scene from Wrath of Khan had years of weight and emotion behind it which is why it worked so well in the first place.

And there's a lot of downsides to Into Darkness. The biggest being that it's trying to remake/rehash Wrath of Khan. Followed by the copout at the end (at least wait a movie to bring back Kirk, damn), Kirtzman/Orci's magic blood fetish, and appropriated PC robot Khan.

I just feel like Into Darkness could have been more than it ended up being if it hadn't gone the Wrath of Khan remake/rehash route. You watch the trailer and you get a sense of excitement and wonder how a seemingly ordinary guy like John Harrison could be such a threat. But when you watch the movie, you get a sense of disappointment at the reveal of Harrison as well as blatantly rehashing pivotal moments from Wrath of Khan.
