So, question for the panel. I just picked up Return of the Jedi from the library, and it has the original version on the disc as a special feature. But, as I’ve already watched the newer versions of the first two Star Warses, should I watch the newer version of this too? I’m probably [definitely] overthinking this.

Nalkarj Is it even possible to truly overthink these major life decisions ? By the time the debate over this issue has taken its course the disk will be overdue !

Well, that version is letterboxed (meaning it will appear very small on your tv) and was released in extremely low definition. It was kind of a deliberate slap in the face to fans that wanted the originals.

Muchos gracias, No Morpho, Only Bánh mì . So far, well, it’s not what I expected. The very beginning felt like the first movie more the second, this current scene I’m watching in Jabba’s nightclub home is really weird. It’s also more sci-fi-y than the others, what with all the aliens, which isn’t exactly my cup of tea. So I don’t love it as much as I loved the second one at first glance. But this is early days yet. I liked the Vader stuff.

Someone should cast Trump as Jabba.

The original ROTJ has the better song for the palace sequences, and its better to have the original actor for the Vader unmasking and ghost stuff than what they did for the revised versions in 2005.

OK, Ford’s actually making me laugh. Watching all the human actors who are playing humans (oh! and the Droids too ) are great; I like them a lot more than the Jim Henson muppets, though I loved Yoda and like Jabba, or the aliens that seem like they’re out of a cut-rate Power Rangers (which I’ve always despised). And the Han-Chewie reunion was great. And Carrie Fisher looks grand in that bikini.

Um pretty much.
I dont recall any other massive changes.
I wasn't a fan of Nub Nub the song used in the original version-I prefer the 97 SE music for the end actually.
But the 2005 version inserting Christensen is TOO MUCH.
I need to watch a movie featuring Sebastian Shaw when he was young.

OK, the dialogue’s swell. “That’s good, I hate long waits.” “In his belly you will find a new definition of pain and suffering.”

That's something I STILL dont get. If you are in the Sarlaac, do you stay alive for a 1000 years?
Isn't that the gist of it.
The Han role is so badly written but I do like his response to Luke saying "I grew up here you know."
"You're going to die here you know. Convenient."
