The City of Light has been the scene of a number of movies, e.g. NINOTCHKA, GIGI, and, of course, THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS.
I've never been there, except for a one-hour layover in 1968 (never left Orly Airport). I'm hoping that it is still as beautiful as it was depicted in films, and those great sculptured buildings haven't been demolished and replaced by those ugly glass 'n' brass monoliths that cover almost all of the Upper East Side and Lower West Side of Manhattan. I hope the French government has approved some kind of Landmarks Preservation Society, such as the one that saved the beautiful old buildings on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (where I live).
I'm sure that familiar Parisian attractions will never be destroyed in the name of "progress", but there are still interesting neighborhoods that are not necessarily "tourist attractions".
The same could be said of other European cities, but I'm focusing on Paris right now.

CHARADE did nicely by it. 007 had an encounter at the Eiffel Tower in A VIEW TO A KILL. Wherever Glenn Ford and Ingrid Thulin walked in FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE, there was Notre Dame in the background. And of course, the city was liberated in IS PARIS BURNING.

Paris, je t'aime (2006) is made of up several short films about Paris. I especially liked the one with Margo Martindale as the lonesome American tourist.

Shot entirely on the streets of Paris, the city as you have never seen before in film, Le pont du Nord (1981) , Jacques Rivette . An excellent multi faceted drama, an intimate Parisian portrait. The back-alleys, streets, buildings, squares, parks and statues are drawn into the tale much like characters themselves , Baptiste (Pascale Ogier) has a thing for Lion Statues, she seeks out as many as she can find, yet another outstanding highlight featuring throughout this wonderful Paris set film...

Winner of the short film Palme d'Or at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival. La Seine a rencontré Paris (1957). Directed by Joris Ivens, Written by poet Jacques Prévert and narrated by actor/poet Serge Reggiani A beautifully shot, flowing film, expressed from the perspective of a boat trip through the city, showing scenes of the daily lives, the human interaction along the river banks. Magnificent architecture and city landscapes provide dramatic scope for the stunning portraits highlighted throughout The Seine Meets Paris ...

There is also the original version of BREATHLESS, filmed entirely in Paris.
I hope someone has been there recently and can ascertain that it's still as beautiful as it was in the past.

C'était un rendez-vous (It was a date) - Not only do you get to hear a Ferrari screaming through the streets of Paris, it's only 8 minutes long!
Is Paris Burning?
Moulin Rouge - specifically the one dealing with Toulouse Lautrec, but I believe they all are set based. I could be wrong...

I'm sure a number of French classics were also made in Paris, such as Abel Gance's NAPOLEON, SOUS LES TOITS DE PARIS, BOUDOU SAUVEE DES EAUX, and LES ENFANTS DU PARADIS.
Any others?

Alec Guinness and Stanley Hollyway in a hurry, since their gold miniatures of the Effel Tower has just been bought by a bunch of school girls on a school trip, in The Lavender Hill Mob 1951.

A good list. Teleadm and Mattgarth mentioned some films with Audrey Hepburn ... Charade, Funny Face and How to Steal a Million ... that really showcase some of the most beautiful (and popular) sites.
I was in Paris last year with some friends. They stuck with the tourist draws, which we had all seen. I broke from the group, during the day, and walked neighborhoods, where I frequently saw places that looked familiar, from movies I had seen.
I strongly recommend a video series on YouTube, called "Paris Next Stop." You can also find it by a search for "Art and Heart," in the YouTube search box. It's presented by Lisa Pasold, who is a writer and tour guide, from Canada. She has selected 13 "stops" on the Paris Metro, and does a 45 minute walk-around video at each neighborhood. I think the series originally aired on the Travel Channel, with each of the 13 episodes running an hour ... with commercials. YouTube has omitted the commercials (thank you). I still re-watch episodes, from time to time. And, I wish that she, or someone, would do such a series from other popular travel destinations.
