Oh yeah. I like it more than the remake. Well actually the 1982 John Carpenter Movie happens to be My own Number 1 Favorite Movie but I definitely think that All 3 of " THE THING" Movies (Yes, even the 2011 Prequel) are Pretty Good Movies.

Oh, Carpenter's movie is very impressive, to be sure, and I'll admit it's a better film and a better take on the short story. This one just has a very personal appeal to me, mostly nostalgia from when I saw it as a kid. Fun fact : I first saw Carpenter's movie at a movie club the teachers ran in our school Wrap your head around that for a moment... I was no more than 15, and that was the kind of thing our teachers were showing us. It wasn't even an after school event, it was in class time. Other movies they showed us included Ridley Scott's Alien. Things were looser back then!

Other movies they showed us included Ridley Scott's Alien. Things were looser back then! What did you think of the 2011 Prequel ? I mostly liked it. It bothered me that they showed the saucer explode at the end, when in the original we saw the video in which the Norwegians blew it up before they got the creature out. For a movie that bragged so much on how it was trying to be a perfect fit to the original movie, that was an odd decision. Also if Things make a perfect copy, why wouldn't the copy of the guy at the end know which ear his earring was in? That made no sense. I was also intrigued that he was asking her to wait and talk to him before she torched him. What if she had? The Things are clearly intelligent... could she negotiate with it? Is it always inherently hostile, or would it be possible to come to an agreement? It had the capability to build an interstellar craft... surely humans would help it to do that and escape, in return for getting hold of that technology ourselves! I guess it's all outside the scope of a horror movie, but the thought intrigues me.
