TOC TOC is funny and it shows how to properly adapt a play. Even though it takes place mostly in 1 room, they added enough outdoor scenes. It's common for plays to feel very different depending on who's performing them. I can't judge the original French version from 2005, but I saw a performance in Argentina a couple of years ago. It was a lot broader than the movie. There were also some little differences, like a new epilogue. Also, the fact that FEDERICO (a man with Tourette syndrome) doesn't swear so often and, when he does, it's not something that rhymes with something that another character just said. The movie does have some of the same flaws, like the fact that 2 of the patients fall for each other for no real reason and the twist ending: FEDERICO is actually the psychiatrist that everyone is waiting for. He pretended to be a patient and hired an actress to play his secretary and say "The doctor will arrive late." I can buy this. Some psychiatrists use unconventional methods. However, some things don't add up. If he really is as famous as the characters say he is, how come none of the patients recognize his face? If he does this with all his patients, shouldn't people gossip about him always arriving late? Also, FEDERICO doesn't seem to do much to convince people to stay. What if they leave? What if they stay but don't bond to the point where they feel enough concern to overcome their condition temporarily? It just feels like his plan depends on things he has no control of. 6/10 ------------------------ You can read comments of other movies in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian).
