The story is horrible- truly atrocious.
The action vignettes make up for it.

Most blockbusters bore the pants off me. I gave up on Marvel's assembly line stream long ago - still like the original 'X-Men', Sam Raimi's 'Spiderman' films, Jonathan Hensleigh's 'The Punisher' (2004), 'Daredevil' & 'Elektra', but not much else. Don't much care for a raft of comic book - video game styled extravaganzas but 'Sucker Punch' I still enjoy. If you want to see a super hero story with incredible narrative ambitions that is intellectually challenging in some of the ways Suckerpunch was trying (and failing) to be challenging, you owe yourself a peek at Legion. Not only does it require a thinking viewer who pays close attention, but it has spectacular set pieces and a great soundtrack. I looked it up. Sounds interesting, thanks. I may give it a go at some point.

I think there are some good ideas here, some of the music is good and used well during some scenes and I like the look of the movie during the scenes in the institution, but characters are extremely boring due to bad characterizations. The main problem with the movie is that once it gets into the fantasy world, it feels too much like a video game. What is even worse is the movie gives me no reason to care about the characters or anything they are doing and of course there is the problem of trying to be for the female characters, but blatantly objectifying them at the same time. The action is also terrible, which is another big issue for a movie that heavily relies on action scenes.
I actually didn't finish the movie the first time I watched it and really struggled to finish it the second time. I think I fast-forwarded the last 20 minutes of the movie, because I just couldn't take anymore. It is rare that I am this disinterested and annoyed by a movie. Annoyed because it could have been a lot better, but Zack Snyder ruins his own idea with his horrible directing and writing. I am not a hater of Zack Snyder in general and I genuinely love some of his ideas and sometimes his visual style is terrific, but he is one of the most frustrating directors in the business. He has made some movies I like, some movies that I dislike and a couple that are awful.
3/10

I don't usually enjoy movies that play like arcade games but I think a lot of associated elements slotted in to place for me to enjoy 'Sucker Punch'. If it had been a success with audiences and critics, perhaps a stage musical might have been on the cards.
'Sucker Punch grossed $19,058,199 in its first weekend, an opening that placed it second behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. It also opened in 23 markets that weekend, standing at sixth in the overseas box office with $6.5 million. The following weekend, it dropped to seventh place in North America with $6 million, but fared better overseas, where an expansion to 16 more countries led to a $11.5 million gross which topped the international ranking. Sucker Punch eventually grossed $36,392,502 domestically and $53,400,000 abroad, leading to a worldwide total of $89,792,502.'
Budget : $82 million Box office : $89.8 million
