Fairly formulaic show. Every episode would feature the itinerant Dr. David Banner (Bill Bixby) befriending some downtrodden, poor, or otherwise oppressed underdog support characters, which would inevitably result in Banner getting the crap kicked out of him, setting up the two appearances by his green-skinned alter-ego played by bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno. Then after running amok and putting the bad guys in their place, Banner would take his leave and go hitchhiking down the highway as the sad piano music theme plays. Oh, and the reporter from the "National Inquisitor" or whatever was always two steps behind. I guess the paper had a lot of time and resources to devote to this story.

I know I'm not the only person who watched this! No you're not......I loved that show. In fact, I compared it to The Fugitive in it's formula. Both are running from the law, both go from town to town, and both end up helping people then have to keep running. Also, David Jansen and Bill Bixby were so similar....not by looks, but by their soft-spoken and gentle demeanor......and they both died young, before their time.
Excellent shows......both of them.....I miss them.

Given the limited budget that TV Shows had at the time, the creators brought "The Incredible Hulk" to the small screen, as best as they could... by combining the "Dr. Jekyl & Mr Hyde" & "The Fugitive" themes into one great "formulaic" show. The great actor Bill Bixby played the troubled, but kind, Dr. David Banner... Who took us on a 5+ year journey all over the country, and helped the people he met with their problems... While he tried to avoid an obsessed news reporter looking for the biggest story of his career... So that he could hopefully find a cure to stop the "Enormous Rage Monster" that was hidden deep inside of him, once and for all... Which we came to know, as "The Incredible Hulk". I still love the show. Just some of my favorite episodes: "The Incredible Hulk" (series pilot) Along with the help from a long time close friend, David tries to solve the mystery of why he couldn't save his wife from dying in a car accident... and accidentally becomes The Incredible Hulk... But, can they find a cure? "Married"David meets a Doctor, who is dying, and they think they can help each other with their problems. They fall in love and get married... but the marriage isn't meant to last. "A Child in Need"And Abusive alcoholic father faces off with "the Incredible Hulk". "Kindred Spirits"David discovers that there once was a Hulk, in our ancient past. "Homecoming"Tired of being on the run, and alone... David goes home to help his Father and Sister on their farm.. But they are surprised to learn he is still alive... and why they must keep it a secret. "The Psychic"Bill Bixby's real wife, Brenda Benet, plays a psychic who must comfort David and prevent him from commiting suicide, after David learns that the Hulk may have finally killed someone, an innocent young man. Sadly, the Bixby's would divorce a short time later, their son would die in an accident, and Brenda would eventually commit suicide over the loss of her son. "Prometheus"David transforms into "The Incredible Hulk", after encountering a radioactive meteorite, but the radiation has an unsual effect... David finds himself trapped halfway into his metamorphosis, and doesn't know how to get all the way back... and to make matters worse, a group of scientists have captured him, because they think The Hulk is an alien. "The First"David learns that Del Frye had also become a Hulk as part of a Gamma Ray experiment decades earlier, and was cured, after his Hulk had murdered some people... Del learns how to repeat the same Gamma Ray experiment again... and David must stop Del, and his Hulk, before David can take the cure for himself... Sadly, Del's Hulk performs one last devastating destructive act... "A Minor Problem"This was the final episode of the TV Series... David arrives in Rocksprings for a job interview, but discovers the whole town is eerily deserted... because it has been contaminated by a deadly bacterium. But, it wasn't the end of the story... TV Movie: "The Incredible Hulk Returns"The Incredible Hulk teams up with Thor! TV Movie: "The Death of the Incredible Hulk"Bill Bixby plays Dr. David Banner for the last time in his career before his death... "The Incredible Hulk" finally meets his fate...ending the story. Interestingly, there were plans to do another TV Movie... Where "The Incredible Hulk" and Dr. David Banner would come back... But Bill Bixby died before that could happen. 9/10

I liked it. Bixby was well cast. They couldnt do the comics Hulk but for what they did it was ok. I re-watched the pilot recently--was decent enough.
Sad theme song. Bixby really could take a beating and wear out his running shoes. No wonder he always wore the cheap kinds.
I remember the abusive father one!
Also the one with the swamp Hulk.
And the one where Banner gets partially transformed and the reporter Magee comes along (and gets him angry).
But I hated hated hated the later tv movies. They screwed it up badly by bringing in Thor and Daredevil. Ugh. And his death. I know if he had lived they planned to bring him back but they shouldnt have temped fate like that.

I certainly loved the show as a youngster, even if the Hulk was never actually my favorite comic book character. Ironically, the pilot episode is the one that most sticks in my mind. I liked the concept that a person could find this secret reserve of strength in emergency situations. Of the later t.v. movies, I only saw the "death" one, which was a real downer.
